Lofthus
Lofthus is a beautiful hamlet in Hardanger famous for the thousands of fruit trees and spectacular beautiful nature surrounding it. Picturesquely situated between fjord, mountains, waterfalls and glacier it is easy to understand why Lofthus was one of the composer Edvard Grieg`s favourite places which also inspired him to write among others “Våren”.
The municipality Ullensvang with its 650.000 fruit trees is the biggest of its kind in Norway. 80% of all Norwegian cherries comes from Ullensvang. Annually there is a Norwegian championship in cherrie stone spitting in Lofthus and of course a good opportunity to taste the local fruit in the season. A nice walk on Hardanger Fruktsti can be recommended regardless of the season. Lofthus is an excellent starting point for exploring Hardangervidda Nationalpark.
